Nepali cabinet formation likely on Thursday

Two Nepali communist parties on Wednesday decided to finalize the issue of portfolio distribution and Common Minimum Program by Thursday, local newspaper The Rising Nepal reported on Thursday.

After a meeting between the Communist Party of Nepal and the Communist Party of Nepal on Wednesday evening at the parliamentary party office of CPN-M at Singha Durbar in Kathmandu, CPN-UML leader Bhim Rawal said the wrangling over portfolios had been resolved after the CPN-UML was given the responsibility of the Ministry for Local Development and Water Resources.

"Today the meeting could not be conclusive as Madhesi People's Rights Forum leaders could not attend the meeting," Rawal said. He informed that the meeting to be held on Thursday morning would sign the CMP and agreement for portfolio.

Wednesday's dialogue was held between Prime Minister and CPN-M Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal "Prachanda" and top leaders of the CPN-UML.

Rawal informed that his party CPN-UML would decide about, who would lead the CPN-UML's team in the government only after the agreement was signed among the three-party alliance.

The three-party alliance on last Friday, together with most of the smaller parties in the Constituent Assembly voted Prachanda for the Prime Minister.

However, the third partner of the alliance MPRF leader B.P.Yadav said his party's participation might be only after Prachanda's scheduled visit to China beginning Aug. 23.

"Though agreement has already been made to give the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Information and Communications to the MPRF, agreement on other ministries is yet to be made," Yadav said.

"We have already decided that Chairman Upendra Yadav would lead the MPRF team in the government," leader B.P. Yadav said.

The CPN-M-led government is yet to assume a full shape pertaining to the wrangling over the portfolios even after three days since Prachanda was sworn in as Prime Minister on Monday.
